tigers 5, cubs 3

interleague is back. i like how they bill this game as a world series rematch. like it has anything to do with 1945. i would like to think of it as the would've should've world series from 1984.

anyway, the tigers are hot and the cubs are not! it's good to see rusch back on the mound (haha). i wish they could just send him to triple-a or trade him. the guy really doesn't have any assets other than he is left handed.

barrett had his appeal heard so expect to see more of blanco the next ten games. ironically, he was the highlight of the game for the cubs (3-4, HR).

astros 3, cubs 2

it all looked so good from the beginning. the cubs scored in each of the first two innings, but were punchless after that.

woo-hoo for juan pierre! 4 stolen bases. big whup! now i see why people say stolen bases are overrated. he only scored one run and he would've scored it without the stolen base. the blindfold has been lifted from my eyes. steals are useless, which in turn, makes juan pierre useless.

but who is even more useless than pierre? dusty baker himself. the guy has no feel for the game. zambrano was rolling through the astros no problem. but, for some reason baker felt nevin had a better chance to get the run home that zambrano. maybe, but at least i know zambrano would have given it more effort--he just cares more. baker just puts in nevin b/c that is what they got him for. big deal. you have to feel the game. was it better to have a little better chance of getting the run home or having zambrano going back out there and dominating the rest of the game.

bottom line: zambrano cared more about getting the run home and zambrano would not have let the astros score in the next inning. howry did. get out of town baker--NOW!

astros 5, cubs 4

the cubs must be afraid of losing streaks. everytime they start to look good, they turn around and just don't look bad, they look awful!

it's just really sad to see how bad they can be making dumb mistakes all the time and not doing the little things. when you have got 1st and 2nd nobody out and the tying run on base, you HAVE to find a way to get him home. the cubs don't, therefore, they sit at the bottom of the standings.

astros 9, cubs 2

well, this is not how you want to start a homestand after a day off. marshall just couldn't find the plate and when he gets behind hitters and has to throw his fastballs, you can just tee off on him.

this was my second night game of the year and from the upper deck behind home plate is just looked like the ball was floating up there. no break whatsoever on the curve. marshall especially looked bad at the top of the order. it was like he was looking ahead to berkman, getting scared and not concentrating on the batter. this was simply an ugly game for marshall. we need a bounceback game from maddux tomorrow.

again, i need to say something about jacque jones. his hitting is exactly as described, no complaints. but, i thought he was a defense guy...WRONG! the guy can't throw more than thirty feet. he bounces it straight into the ground every time. it's like he can't control himself when he tries to throw somebody out. he gets all excited and squeezes the ball and forgets to let go. a shame!

of course i sit petitte in my fantasy league. i know the cubs can't hit lefties and i know the cubs can't hit petitte. i can't believe i let loyalty get in the way of fantasy knowledge.

cubs 9, reds 3

sign him up! dump glendon, prior and wood and let's just keep this guy! he was lights out in relief and in his first start he gives up one run and strikes out more guys than innings pitched. not too shabby!

neither is taking 3 of 4 from the reds who flip-flop between 1st with the cards. this makes the cubs road trip 6-4. that's good, but it doesn't help us make up much ground. it's going to be a long road at this pace.

cubs 4, reds 2

here we go again, beating the good teams. why couldn't we show some life like this in houston?

zambrano is becoming the cy young guy we all thought he would be this year. he is simply unhittable right now.

plus, barrett seems to be livin' it up until his suspension, knocking in all 4 runs. if the cubs weren't so bad, he's be right up there for NL all-star consideration. he gets my vote anyway.

actually, these are the only two cubs who are even close to all-stars. give'em some votes!!!

cubs 6, reds 5

phew, we tried to give that one away.

i thought dempster was okay now that he didn't have the stress of his son being born. but 3 walks was not good. but, hey a save is a save and a win is a win. and you gotta love those days when pierre isn't our leadoff hitter. makes you feel like you are going to win (not that womack is much better!) in fact why are neifi and womack even on major league rosters. i don't really get it. two of the worst hitters of all time on one team in 2006? the cubs brass has lost it!

cubs 1, reds 7

yuck!

see what happens when you tell rusch he is in the rotation? nothing good can happen. but, its not all his fault. 2 runs in 3 days is terrible. we may as well be the kansas city royals. it might be time to find a new team to root for this year.

cubs 0, astros 1

oh no! just when i think they are starting to pull it together, they put together two stinkers! 1 run in two days?!?! unbelievable. especially, when you get a gem from your rookie pitcher. that's just a shame. it's supposed to be a pleasure to be in the majors. this kid is going to be frustrated before his second season.

you gotta hand it marshall, if he is throwing strikes he is unstoppable. but, being a rookie he is unpredictable, so when you get a performance like this, you need to capitalize!

cubs 1, astros 4

absolutely no highlights today and you've got to be worried about kerry only going 3+ innings. is he hurt again? or just a pitch count?

cubs 8, astros 0

maybe it's time the cubs traded zambrano. he is just too good to be on this team...taking a no-hitter all the way into the 8th, let alone hitting a homerun and driving in 4.

how 'bout this. cubs have won two series in a row and just took the first from the astros, all in division play. keep this up and they can get right back into it. i've giving them until the end of the month and then we'll see.

cubs 6, cardinals 9

cubs blew a great opportunity today. the cards first game without albert pujols and we let them win?!?! c'mon! this is our chance...we need to take advantage of it!

maddux is starting to look his age.

cubs 8, cardinals 5

4 out of 5 since aramis' head... and the best news just happened!!

pujols left the game injured. this could be the saviour to the cubs season. either that or aramis starting to hit like he did today with a grand slam the opposite way. that's the swing that made me think he is the best hitter on the cubs.

nevin also made his first dent as a cub. and what can i say about glendon rusch. terrible starter, terrible reliever, great spot starter. i swear this guy should just sleep in the dugout and when they need him, wake him up. if he tries to mentally prepare himself for role, he is useless!

cubs 5, cardinals 4

it took a while, but the cubs finally got the cards tonight. even though walker was 0-for-7 he managed to drive in the winning run.

this is 3 out of 4 since my declared rock bottom for the cubs. i just can't figure out how we find way s to beat the top two teams in the division, but nobody else!
